The site was chosen deliberately: from Komsomol Square, Alexandrov residents left for the front. Sculptor Boris Yakovlev received the Yevgeny Vuchetich Gold Medal for the monumental composition.
A torch for the Eternal Flame was brought from Moscow, lit from the flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Capsules with soil from Stalingrad were placed at the foot of the monument.
On the eve of Victory Day the post’s staff visit the monument each year to honour fallen local soldiers.
