Tatarstan customs found undeclared Chanel, Cartier, Dior and Tiffany & Co jewellery worth over RUB 4.5 million on a mother and daughter from Kazan arriving from the UAE.
On the green channel, personal search revealed some items in baggage and others concealed under clothing. Both admitted the goods were for resale.
A criminal case was opened for group smuggling of strategically important goods (Article 226.1(2)(v)), carrying seven to twelve years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to RUB 2 million. The jewellery was seized and both suspects remanded in custody.
