Sochi customs found undeclared Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery worth RUB 3 million on a 38-year-old passenger arriving from Dubai.
On the green channel she denied having goods subject to declaration; a search of her backpack revealed earrings and a Vintage Alhambra necklace in branded packaging.
She said the items were a gift and that she was unaware of declaration rules. Expert examination confirmed 750-grade yellow and white gold alloy.
The goods were seized and a criminal case opened under Article 226.1(1) of the Criminal Code, with penalties up to five years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to RUB 1 million.
