Irkutsk customs find raw jellyfish meat in baggage from Hanoi

According to an FCS Russia press release, Irkutsk airport officers found “three kilograms of jellyfish meat” in the baggage of a passenger arriving from Hanoi.

The foreign national used the green channel with a bulky polystyrene box. Inspection revealed more than 5 kg of seafood in baggage — including 3 kg of raw jellyfish meat and fried fish — without veterinary papers or factory packaging; delicacies were vacuum-packed without factory labels. He said the goods were for personal use.

To prevent spread of infections hazardous to humans and animals, the products were seized and handed to the airline for removal on the return flight from the EAEU customs territory.

Irkutsk customs opened an administrative case under Article 16.3 of the Code of Administrative Offences and imposed a fine. Individuals may import up to 5 kg of food in factory packaging; raw products of animal origin may not be brought in by air passengers.
