Postal customs stop smuggling of Orthodox silver jewelry to China

According to an FCS Russia press release, Moscow Central Postal Customs officers shut down a “smuggling channel for Orthodox-themed jewelry to China”.

The organiser, a 32-year-old foreign national, was detained while posting another parcel. He declared sweets and chocolate but was shipping 163 silver items: pectoral crosses, rings, pendants, bracelets, and earrings.

Examination confirmed silver manufacture; total value exceeds RUB 1.2 million. The detainee admitted buying religious-symbol jewelry in Moscow shops and mailing it to China for resale.

A criminal case was opened under Article 226.1(1) of the Criminal Code; travel restrictions were imposed. Investigative measures continue.
