Moscow postal customs intercept giant beetles from Peru worth RUB 1.5 million

According to an FCS Russia press release, staff at the Central Postal Customs Office in Moscow found 200 dried exotic beetles worth RUB 1.5 million in parcels from Peru.

X-ray screening during inspection of two items addressed to residents of Stavropol Territory revealed each beetle mounted on cardboard under plastic wrap, with no accompanying documents.

Experts classified the specimens as neotropical trophies, including the world’s largest longhorn beetle, the titan beetle, at nearly 20 cm, plus weevils and rhinoceros beetles.

Without veterinary import permits, the parcels were returned to the sender.
