Investigators found that a Russian citizen and a foreign national formed a criminal group for unlawful gain. While escorting tour groups from China, the woman split alcohol among passengers within personal allowance limits, disguising smuggling as personal-use goods.

The Russian member stored bottles at a warehouse in Zabaikalsk and resold them; unidentified persons handled domestic transport.

A search seized 917 bottles (626.3 litres, 49 product lines) worth over RUB 343,000. Experts confirmed Chinese origin, absence of Russian excise stamps and shipping documents, and a ban on sale in Russia.

A criminal case was opened under Article 226.1(2)(v) of the Criminal Code (group smuggling of strategically important goods). The penalty may be up to 12 years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to RUB 2 million.
