Dagestan customs officers seized more than 22 tonnes of epimedium paste in a transit truck from Georgia that had been declared as herbal honey; the cargo’s market value exceeded RUB 21 million. Source: FCS Russia.
Inspectors stopped the vehicle for checks at the Yarag-Kazmalyar crossing. A scan with a mobile inspection complex cast doubt on the waybill data, and the load was examined in full.
Cardboard boxes held epimedium paste in glass jars and paper sachets rather than the honey stated in the paperwork. The consignment was bound for Kazakhstan via transit and was accompanied by forged documents.
The goods were seized. An administrative case was opened against the carrier under Part 3 of Article 16.1 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offences for submitting false information when placing goods under customs transit; the penalty may include confiscation and fines.
