According to an FCS Russia press release, Irkutsk airport customs found “almost 3.5 kg of nephrite” in a foreign national’s suitcase before a flight to Beijing.
Selective control on the “green” channel and X-ray screening revealed eight rectangular green stones. The traveller said he bought the minerals for personal use and intended to take them to China.
Experts identified raw nephrite; personal export from the EAEU customs territory is prohibited. An administrative case was opened under Article 16.3 of the Code of Administrative Offences, with a possible fine and confiscation.
