According to an FCS Russia press release, FCS, FSB and Interior Ministry officers together with Belarus customs halted a channel for importing “especially large consignments of hashish into Russia”.
A transnational group shipped the drug from EU countries via Belarus in trucks fitted with sophisticated concealments. The operation seized a heavy truck carrying more than 135 kg of hashish; the illicit market value exceeds RUB 400 million.
Eight members of the organised group — Russian and Belarusian nationals including couriers, accomplices and recipients — were detained. Criminal cases were opened under Articles 229.1(4) and 30(3), 228.1(5) of the Criminal Code, which provide for imprisonment up to life.
