According to an FCS Russia press release, Sheremetyevo customs officers found “more than 50 crocodile skins” in baggage during selective control of a passenger from China.
X-ray screening revealed 55 reptile-leather items of various colours and sizes in two suitcases belonging to a 40-year-old foreign national. The goods were valued at RUB 1.7 million.
He said he was carrying the items at the request of third parties. An administrative case was opened under Article 16.2(1) of the Code of Administrative Offences (failure to declare goods), which provides for a fine of up to double the value of the goods and possible confiscation.
