Irkutsk customs find worms and plants in baggage from Vietnam

According to an FCS Russia press release, Irkutsk customs officers at the “green” channel stopped a passenger from Vietnam carrying boxes that contained “plants and invertebrates without documents”.

Inspectors found about 3 kg of frozen worms, 4.5 kg of plant stems and leaves and a 30 cm banana flower. The items had no factory packaging or supporting papers.

The traveller said he brought the goods for personal consumption and was unaware of cross-border rules. The seized items were confiscated.

An administrative case was opened under Article 16.3 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offences (breach of import/export bans and restrictions). A fine was imposed.
