According to a press release by FCS Russia, Zabaikalsk border customs stopped an attempt to smuggle more than RUB 7 million in cash to China.
A foreign woman on the passenger lane appeared nervous and did not answer questions about goods to declare. Inspectors found banknotes totalling RUB 7,386,000 in her bag and under her clothes.
A criminal case was opened under Article 200.1(2)(a) (especially large-scale illegal movement of cash across the EAEU customs border). Penalties include a fine of ten to fifteen times the amount or restriction of liberty for up to four years.
FCS Russia reminds travellers that cash exceeding USD 10,000 equivalent must be declared in writing when crossing the EAEU customs border.
