Sheremetyevo customs find undeclared Cartier jewellery worth over RUB 5 million

According to an FCS Russia press release, Sheremetyevo customs officers found undeclared Cartier jewellery worth more than RUB 5 million in an air passenger’s bag.

A 39-year-old Russian woman arrived with her husband from Dubai. Hand-luggage screening revealed a Broderie De Cartier ring, a Lignes Essentielles bracelet and 1895 Stud Earrings with diamonds in branded boxes.

She said the pieces were a gift from her husband and that she was unaware their total value exceeded the EUR 10,000 equivalent. Examination confirmed 750-grade gold with diamond inlays.

An administrative case was opened under Article 16.2(1) of the Code of Administrative Offences (failure to declare). She paid a fine of RUB 1,597,000 after deducting the amount allowed for two travellers — half the value of the goods.
