During operational search activities in Moscow, officers inspected a parcel from Thailand. It contained about one kilogram of tetrahydrocannabinol packed in hair-styling wax tins.
The consignment was forwarded to a customer in Veliky Novgorod. When the parcel was collected, customs detained a 33-year-old man with prior convictions, including for illicit drug trafficking. He intended to distribute the substance in the Novgorod region.
A criminal case was opened under Part 4 of Article 229.1 of the Criminal Code (illicit movement of narcotics on an especially large scale). The article provides for imprisonment from 15 to 20 years with a fine of up to RUB 1 million or life imprisonment.
The operation was carried out jointly with the Novgorod regional office of the Federal Security Service.
