During a vehicle search, officers found banknotes concealed behind trim in the boot: USD 150,000, EUR 2,700 and RUB 90,000 — equivalent to more than RUB 12.3 million in total.
A criminal case was opened under subparagraph “a”, part 2, Article 200.1 of the Russian Criminal Code for smuggling cash in an especially large amount; the penalty may include a fine of ten to fifteen times the unlawfully moved sum or restriction of liberty for up to four years.
