Sheremetyevo customs find more than 900 mink pelts in passenger baggage

The FCS Russia press office reports in an official release. The headline reads: “Customs found more than 900 mink pelts in a foreign national’s baggage”.

Sheremetyevo customs officers found 930 mink pelts worth nearly RUB 1.2 million in the baggage of a 52-year-old foreign national departing for China.

During inspection of two suitcases with an X-ray scanner, officers detected dressed pelts of various colours and sizes. The passenger said he had bought them at a Moscow market for resale in China.

Examination confirmed dressed mink pelts of the mustelid family.

Authorities are deciding whether to open a criminal case under Article 226.1(1) of the Criminal Code, punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to RUB 1 million.
