Head of the Federal Customs Service of Russia (FCS Russia) Valery Pikalyov congratulated colleagues and customs veterans on Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War. In his message he called 9 May “a landmark date for all of us” — a day of shared pride in the Soviet people’s united fight against fascism.
Pikalyov recalled the sacrifices veterans and their families made for future generations’ freedom and stressed the duty to preserve memory of those events and live up to the legacy of the victors.
He said the courage and fortitude of Great Patriotic War veterans remain an example. During the war most customs officers joined the Red Army; those who stayed cleared supplies for the front and rear, Red Cross cargo and fought smuggling.
The address also expressed support for customs staff taking part in the special military operation. Pikalyov wished employees and their families health, wellbeing, peace and further achievements for the benefit of the country.
