Aleksandr Subbotin: Artificial Intelligence Is Replacing Paper Procedures in SFS Measures

On 28 May in Astana, at the 5th Eurasian Economic Forum, EEC Minister for Technical Regulation Aleksandr Subbotin chaired a session on digitalisation and artificial intelligence in sanitary, veterinary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures. Source: Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

Specialists from the EAEU member states’ competent authorities and representatives of international organisations exchanged experience in using digital tools and AI to protect public health, animal health and phytosanitary security across the Union.

Subbotin said new technologies are already widely deployed in the sector and paper-based procedures are gradually giving way to AI-driven solutions. In his view, digital services with AI elements will let national authorities assess risks in real time and take management decisions faster while reducing the control burden on businesses.

The discussion outcomes are to be reviewed by the Commission when developing coordinated approaches to synchronised AI rollout in SPS measures, taking account of each member state’s interests and those of the Union as a whole.
