The EAEU and Tunisia are opening talks on a duty-free trade agreement after Union heads of state endorsed the initiative on 29 May at the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting in Astana. Source: Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
The move followed a joint study group set up under EEC Council Order No. 5 of 22 January 2025. Commission specialists believe wider market access will strengthen industrial competitiveness and bilateral trade, although business ties still tap only part of the available potential.
Analysts point to food, metals, chemicals, forestry products and consumer goods as priority export sectors for the Tunisian market. The negotiating agenda will follow mutually beneficial principles and each side's development goals; the EEC expects trade liberalization and fewer administrative barriers to accelerate export and import flows.
