On 2 June, the EEC Collegium approved draft Council decisions to simplify phytosanitary requirements for certain products and wood packaging in the EAEU. Source: Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
One decision would remove the requirement to prove absence of pepino mosaic virus in fresh tomatoes, peppers and eggplants while maintaining the necessary level of phytosanitary safety.
Another would ease movement of wood packaging and fastening materials between member states: import and transit without a phytosanitary certificate will be allowed where special marking confirms heat treatment or fumigation.
The drafts will be considered at the next meeting of the EEC Council. EEC Minister for Technical Regulation Alexander Subbotin said the measures were agreed with experts and business as part of ongoing work to reduce administrative barriers.
