Sagintayev holds working meetings at Russia–ASEAN summit

On 18 June in Kazan, EEC Board Chairman Bakytzhan Sagintayev held a series of working meetings with leaders of ASEAN member states and organisations on the sidelines of the Russia–ASEAN summit. Source: Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

Talks with ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn focused on implementing the EAEU–ASEAN cooperation programme for 2026–2030. A similar agenda was raised in discussions with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., whose country holds the ASEAN chairmanship in 2026.

Meeting Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, the parties aligned priorities under the free trade agreement. EAEU–Vietnam trade reached USD 8.3 billion in 2025.

With Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul the emphasis was on broadening sectoral dialogue under the cooperation memorandum and stepping up business contacts. Sagintayev and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong reviewed promising areas of partnership.

Talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim covered formalising interaction. Meetings with Laotian Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah confirmed interest in strengthening trade and economic ties in the EAEU–ASEAN format.
