On 25 June in Molodechno, within the 13th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, the Union State Committee on Standardisation and Quality held its inaugural meeting with EEC Minister for Technical Regulation Alexander Subbotin. Source: Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
The Committee, established in February 2026, is meant to coordinate efforts to shield domestic markets from unsafe products, prevent trade barriers, and raise product quality and competitiveness. Members reviewed near-term work plans in light of current trends in standardisation.
Subbotin proposed synchronising technical regulation rule-making across the Union State and the EAEU. He said cooperation between the Committee and the Commission should improve product safety, quality and competitiveness and steadily remove technical barriers in mutual trade.
The EAEU has built infrastructure to protect its internal market; Russia and Belarus carry out much of the standardisation work under programmes to develop standards for EAEU technical regulations. As the Union expands its competences in this area, close coordination with the new Committee will be essential.
