According to the Commission, EAEU trade with Ethiopia in 2025 was 3.4 times higher than in 2024, reaching USD 596.2 million. The minister attributed the growth to sustained dialogue with both Ethiopia and the African Union Commission.
Imanaliev stressed the importance of bilateral cooperation for expanding member states' economic footprint in Africa. He outlined work on a new memorandum with the African Union and contacts with other sub-regional African groupings.
To foster business ties, the sides proposed a seminar for Ethiopian officials and companies on regulatory rules within the EAEU. They also discussed an EEC–Government of Ethiopia cooperation memorandum and joint participation in integration-themed events in member states and Ethiopia.
The ambassador welcomed the Commission's initiatives. Ethiopia is a member of the African Union, which brings together 55 states with a population of about one billion; the African Union Commission is headquartered in Addis Ababa.
