FCS head Pikalev inspects customs operations at Verkhny Lars crossing

At the Verkhny Lars motor checkpoint in North Ossetia, FCS Russia head Valery Pikalev and North Caucasus Customs Directorate chief Nikolay Dzugaev reviewed crossing infrastructure and customs control arrangements on a key route for EAEU freight flows. Source: FCS Russia.

Adjacent to the crossing, a separate control mechanism operates under the SPOT law — distinct from standard customs procedures. It applies to vehicles carrying goods from EAEU member states, including consignments from Armenia transiting Georgia into Russia. The delegation reported that the arrangement is running normally and that officers have the required technical equipment.

An electronic queue has been deployed at Verkhny Lars to reduce the risk of traffic jams. Day-to-day truck flows are estimated at around 1,000 vehicles, while peak periods have seen more than 1,500 trucks per day.

Officials also presented the results of a pilot electronic ticket system that records a vehicle’s presence at the checkpoint, logs each control stage and tracks the number of trucks on the border crossing site.

Closing his visit to the North Caucasus Customs Directorate, Pikalev thanked Dzugaev, North Ossetian Customs head Georgy Tsegoyev and staff for implementing SPOT and maintaining operations under heavy traffic.
