EEC seminar maps trade barriers and cooperation with China

The Eurasian Economic Commission headquarters hosted a seminar chaired by EEC Minister for Trade Andrey Slepnev on trade barriers and promising areas of cooperation with the People’s Republic of China. Source: Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

The event was held ahead of the sixth meeting of the Joint Commission under the EAEU–China trade and economic cooperation agreement. Representatives of government bodies, industry associations and companies from all Union member states took part.

Slepnev noted that China remains the EAEU’s key trading partner: it accounted for 36% of the Union’s trade turnover last year, and its share has already exceeded 40% this year. Export growth, settlements in national currencies and the development of transit and overland routes raise the bar for stability in sensitive goods supply chains.

Participants reviewed market access to China and potential cooperation areas, including veterinary and sanitary measures, technical and climate regulation, intellectual property protection, transport corridors, e-commerce and trade facilitation.

Wrapping up the meeting, Slepnev highlighted digital trade, technical regulations, sanitary and phytosanitary barriers, export finance, transport logistics and supply chain security as priorities for work with Chinese partners. Identified barriers and proposals will feed into the sixth Joint Commission agenda and the EEC’s broader cooperation agenda with China.
