Cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Commission and the United Nations is entering a new phase, EEC Minister for Economy and Financial Policy Bakyt Sultanov said in a video address to the 59th session of the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). In late May 2026, at the Eurasian Economic Forum in Astana, the EEC and the UN signed a memorandum of understanding that Sultanov said lays the groundwork for broad joint work. It will allow Union legal acts in trade law to draw on UNCITRAL standards.
The 2026 plan includes webinars, information exchange, and EEC support in translating UNCITRAL online training courses. Sultanov also highlighted the session agenda: an advisory centre for investment disputes, e-commerce and digital platforms, online payments, transaction security, and insolvency.
EEC participation in UNCITRAL provides access to current international approaches for further development of EAEU law. The minister stressed that expert solutions should cut business costs, advance digital tools, and strengthen legal certainty in economic exchange.
