Postal customs find exotic scorpions and beetles in Thailand parcel

Officers of the Central Postal Customs in Moscow seized 185 dried exotic scorpions and beetles in an international postal item travelling from Thailand to Voronezh. Source: FCS Russia.

X-ray screening revealed 125 Asian forest scorpions of characteristic black colour with large pincers and 60 iridescent leaf beetles with “frog-like” legs. Each specimen was fixed to a cardboard backing and wrapped in cellophane.

The sender declared “dried edible insects” worth about RUB 11,500, but no required supporting documents were enclosed.

Rosselkhoznadzor banned the import of the quarantine-controlled goods; the parcel was returned to the sender.
