When declaring the goods, the importer’s executive intentionally provided inaccurate customs valuation data, understating it by 2.5 times. As a result, about 900 tonnes of tobacco were brought into Russia via the seaport of Novorossiysk.
Following customs control after release of the goods, the customs value was adjusted and additional charges totaled almost RUB 130 million. Under point (g), Part 2, Article 194 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, a criminal case was opened in relation to the company’s director.
The court imposed a fine of RUB 300,000 and also granted a civil claim for collection of unpaid customs payments.
