Samara customs stopped the illegal import of 970 kg of a mephedrone precursor. The consignment could have yielded about 800 kg of the drug, valued at over RUB 2 billion on the black market. Source: FCS Russia.
Operational information indicated that banned substances were being brought from Central Asia by truck. In the Orenburg Region the vehicle was stopped for inspection: under the chassis, inside a metal box, officers found 39 primer cans with a clear liquid; the same liquid was in a spare fuel tank.
Laboratory testing identified the narcotic precursor 1-(4-Methylphenyl)propan-1-one.
Three criminal cases were opened against the driver under Article 229.1(4)(b) of the Criminal Code (smuggling of precursors on an especially large scale). The court sentenced him to seven years in a strict-regime colony. The operation was conducted with the Border Directorate of the FSB of Russia for the Orenburg Region.
