On 31 August in Bishkek, on the sidelines of the SCO summit, EEC Board Chairman Bakytzhan Sagintayev held a working meeting with Vietnam’s Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan; the sides reviewed progress and outlook under the free trade agreement. Source: Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
Mr Sagintayev stressed Vietnam’s role in EAEU foreign-trade links in the Asia-Pacific region: in 2015 the country became the first trade-agreement partner of the Eurasian “five”.
Trade between the EAEU and Vietnam rose from USD 4.3 billion in 2016 to USD 8.3 billion in 2025 — by more than 90%.
He pointed to scope for deeper cooperation in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, e-commerce, technology and platform solutions, and to the need for stronger transport connectivity, logistics, insurance and settlement arrangements.
After the talks both sides reaffirmed interest in further trade and economic dialogue. The EAEU–Vietnam free trade agreement was signed on 29 May 2015 and entered into force on 5 October 2016.
