At the facilities under construction he focused on digital tools meant to speed up customs operations and strengthen control: non-stop vehicle scanning with portal-type inspection systems, automatic number-plate recognition and weigh-in-motion checks integrated into a single checkpoint IT system.
Modernising checkpoints and rolling out advanced technology, Sergey Shklyaev stressed, are essential for growing foreign-trade flows — while expanding throughput and keeping transparent conditions for traders without weakening effective customs control.
The visit included discussion of how Union customs authorities apply the new tools as integration in customs administration advances. Coordinated checkpoint development on the EAEU customs border is set out in the Eurasian Economic Path declaration: the Commission’s task is to pool best national practices and extend a common standard of customs operations across the Union.
