On 9 September in Moscow, EEC Minister in charge of Trade Andrey Slepnev met Vietnam’s Minister of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung to review implementation of the free trade agreement between the EAEU and Vietnam. The sides focused on unlocking the agreement’s potential — expanding mutual trade and deepening investment ties.
Talks covered market access for meat and fish processors and pharmaceutical producers, EAEU countries’ projects in Vietnam, removal of non-tariff barriers and the trigger mechanism. They also discussed how global economic volatility is reshaping production and trade, and the outlook for a protocol on electronic certificates of origin.
Both ministers agreed that several of these topics can be examined in detail at the next meeting of the Joint Committee on FTA implementation on EAEU territory; the venue and dates will be set later.
Slepnev noted that Vietnam was the Union’s first FTA partner and is seen as a gateway to Southeast Asia; he expects the To Lam visit arrangements to give cooperation a further push.
In 2026 the EAEU–Vietnam free trade agreement marks ten years in force; the Joint Committee continues to address current implementation issues.
