At Pulkovo Airport, customs officers seized undeclared branded clothing and accessories worth more than RUB 3 million from the baggage of a 47-year-old Russian national who had arrived from Rome via Istanbul. Source: FCS Russia.
The stop was made in the green channel during selective screening. Three suitcases held men’s shoes, clothing, clutch bags and belts of Burberry, Dior, YSL, Zegna and Stone Island — 42 items in total.
The traveller said he had bought the goods for personal use during the trip for about RUB 1.5 million and was unaware of the declaration requirement.
An examination confirmed that all items were new and that their combined value exceeds RUB 3 million.
An administrative case was opened under Article 16.2(1) of the Russian Code of Administrative Offences (failure to declare goods). A fine of RUB 356,000 has already been paid; the passenger is still deciding how to clear the shipment.
When bringing goods into the EAEU by air, a passenger customs declaration is required if the customs value exceeds the equivalent of EUR 10,000 and/or the total weight exceeds 50 kg.
