On 9 September the EEC Council amended the EAEU Unified quarantine phytosanitary requirements and the List of regulated products subject to control at the customs border and on Union territory. The Unified requirements no longer demand absence of Pepino mosaic virus (PepMV) for fresh or chilled tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. Special PepMV rules for seed and planting material of susceptible crops remain in force.
The Commission expects lower administrative burdens for businesses and easier production and trade in these vegetables.
A note to the List clarifies that wooden packaging and fastening materials may be imported into the EAEU and moved between member states if marked under the Unified requirements confirming heat treatment through the wood or fumigation — without a phytosanitary certificate. The mark itself evidences internationally recognised phytosanitary measures.
