A mobile team of Smolensk Customs stopped a truck from Poland near Krasnaya Gorka and found 400,000 packs of unmarked Belarusian cigarettes, provisionally valued at more than RUB 60 million. Source: FCS Russia.
The paperwork listed about 8 tonnes of cargo, including cosmetics and personal-care goods. The cigarettes were hidden behind pallets of cosmetics and were not declared.
A criminal case was opened under Article 226.1(2)(c) of the Criminal Code: smuggling of strategically important goods on a large scale by a group acting in prior collusion. The penalty is up to ten years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to RUB 1 million.
