At the Magaramkent customs post, officers found more than two tonnes of sibutramine in three trucks transiting from Turkey to Belarus that were declared as dietary supplements — the substance is banned from import into Russia. Source: FCS Russia.
Inspections over one month uncovered cardboard boxes with over 46,000 slimming capsules plus coffee and tea containing the same ingredient.
The cargo was seized and tested; experts confirmed sibutramine in every product line.
A criminal case was opened under Article 226.1(1.1) of the Russian Criminal Code for unlawful cross-border movement of potent substances within the EAEU; penalties include up to seven years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to RUB 1 million.
The operation was carried out with the Dagestan office of the Federal Security Service.
