EAEU raises import duties to shield industry from import surge

The EEC Council has raised import customs duties on goods whose inflows surged while import prices fell sharply, in a move to shield manufacturing in EAEU member states. Source: Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

The step follows monitoring by a high-level working group chaired by EEC Minister for Trade Andrey Slepnev. Rates were lifted to WTO bound tariff levels, affecting notably light-industry goods, selected electronics and valve products.

The Commission expects the measure to support existing plants, preserve jobs and encourage industrial cooperation and import substitution within the Union market.

The decision takes effect ten calendar days after official publication and remains in force through the end of September 2027.
