Russia and Namibia sign customs mutual assistance agreement

At the third Russia–Africa summit in Moscow, FCS Russia head Valery Pikalyov and Namibia Revenue Agency chief Samuel Shifute signed an intergovernmental customs cooperation and mutual assistance agreement. Source: FCS Russia.

The treaty is part of the summit’s official documents. Pikalyov linked the signing to the 35th anniversary of the Federal Customs Service and noted that Russia already has more than 60 similar agreements abroad.

Namibia joins Ethiopia and Nigeria among the first sub-Saharan African states with such a pact with FCS Russia. Pikalyov said it should foster lawful foreign trade while strengthening control through data exchange, anti-smuggling work and training.

The Namibian delegation toured the Russian Customs Academy, which reserves places for foreign students—including applicants from several African countries this year. If Windhoek is interested, FCS Russia may ask the Education Ministry for government quota places for Namibia next year.
